Restorative dentistry comes in many forms. Throughout the years, dentists have created a variety of advanced techniques designed to provide you with a fully restored smile. If you are missing one or more teeth, you may decide on dentures, snap-on dentures, or dental implants.
Denture and Implant Solutions
We provide several false teeth options because no single treatment will be the perfect fit for everyone. Dentures can restore your full smile if you have no teeth left. Implants can restore individual teeth to your smile.
When you choose dental implants, your experience in our office can restore your smile in a permanent, long-lasting way. Dentures and implant solutions are popular restorative treatments to help you attain a stunning smile. If you need dentures because you have more missing teeth, the dentures can be adapted to attach to dental implants.
All About Dental Implants
Dental implants have some advantages you won’t experience with traditional dentures. For example, implant-supported dentures are held in place permanently. The titanium implant post provides an anchor by acting as a natural tooth root.
Our office takes impressions and molds to create a dental prosthetic device to attach to the top of the implant. Your new dental implant looks and functions just like a natural tooth.
Your dentist can craft the replacement tooth to match your existing teeth in color, shape, and size. You would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between your natural teeth and your new prosthetic tooth.
When you lose a tooth or multiple teeth, the following can happen:
- Your jaw stops growing around the missing tooth area. Instead, the jawbone shrinks down from not being used.
- The gap between your teeth can cause shifting over time, which means your teeth start to move out of place.
- The space between your teeth can trap food and bacteria, increasing your risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
Dental implants give the bone in your jaw something to grow around and support. Your smile can also have increased structure and stability. Dental implants also eliminate gaps in your teeth so you can have confidence in your smile.
Types of Dental Implants
Several different types of dental implants are available. No two patients’ smiles are the same, so each method and type of dental implant is created to meet the varied needs of our patients.
We offer two distinct types of implants in terms of where they are placed:
- Endosteal: These types of implants are secured directly into the jawbone. The implants are made of titanium and shaped like screws and are the most common type of dental implant.
- Subperiosteal: If you don’t have enough existing bone in your jaw, you could qualify for a subperiosteal implant. This type of implant is secured under the gum but on or just above the jawbone. This type of implant works well for patients lacking the proper bone density or patients who don’t want to undergo bone grafting to build up the bone for an endosteal implant.
Once we determine the type of implant that will work best for you, we’ll select from various sub-types of implants:
- Traditional: This form of implant is a single-tooth replacement. If you have one missing tooth, this is a great option.
- Teeth in a Day: You can get a temporary prosthetic tooth placed with the implant process known as Teeth in a Day. You’ll be outfitted with this device from the day of your implant placement until the more permanent option is completed.
- Mini Dental Implants: Mini implants are narrower than the typical dental implant and are placed using less complicated techniques.
- All-on-4® Treatment: You can place an entire upper or lower arch of teeth with this method of dental implants. The arch is secured through four strategically placed dental implants.
Teeth Implants Before and After
The dental implant process timeline is straightforward: planning, preparation, placement, and healing.
Dental implants usually comprise three components: the implant itself, the abutment, and the dental prosthetic device. Each implant part is placed at different times throughout the traditional dental implant process. Your mouth will be given time to heal in between each placement.
The implant will be placed within the jawbone first. Your dental implants in this stage will look a lot like your smile now. When the healing is done and your prosthetic is placed, you’ll have a newly restored smile.
